IAB Taxonomies
The WebClassifAI API uses the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Content Taxonomies to classify web content. These taxonomies provide a standardized way to categorize content across different platforms and industries.
Available Taxonomies
- Content Taxonomy 1.0 - The original taxonomy
- Content Taxonomy 2.0 - Major update with new categories
- Content Taxonomy 2.1 - Minor updates and refinements
- Content Taxonomy 2.2 - Additional categories and improvements
- Content Taxonomy 3.0 - Significant restructuring and new categories
- Content Taxonomy 3.1 - Latest version with current categories
Versions 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 of the IAB Content Taxonomy will be available soon. If you need one of them sooner, contact us.
Taxonomy Structure
Each taxonomy version follows a hierarchical structure with varying levels of depth:
Tier 1 contains broad categories like “Technology & Computing”, while Tier 4 has narrow, specific categories like “Databases”.
- Version 1.0 has only 2 tiers
- All other versions (2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1) have 4 tiers
For every taxonomy prediction, results will always contain a Tier 1 category. Tiers 2, 3, and 4 may be missing depending on whether the content of the URL fits into more specific subcategories.
